Transferring video from SSD to PC - Pocket Cinema 4k

PostSat Dec 08, 2018 6:48 am

I recently purchased the BlackMagic Pocket Cinema 4k. I formatted my Samsung 1TB SSD through the in-camera formatting option. I recorded quite a bit of data, and I can watch the video in the camera. I have disconnected the SSD from the BMPC and plugged it into my PC. The drive letter does not show up under my computer; however, it does show up in the computer management section. I cannot access the drive or any of the files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW...I formatted in exFAT. Thanks.

Hmm I know you say you formatted it for exfat, but based on what you say it doesn't sound like it. Do me a favor and download and install (for free) "https://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/". This will allow windows to read Mac drives.

I have had this issue with other drives. Have you tried locating the drive on control panel>hardware and sound>devices and printers? If it is visible here, look below:

Sometimes on windows computers, the drive is not visible because the name of it changed or sometimes its even the thumb drive input changed from the last time you used the same drive in the computer so it won't see it correctly. I don't know why this is the case but it is. When you format a drive on the bmpcc4k, then name will change every time you reformat. If you go in the file path I showed above, right click the device (if visible) and troubleshoot, then disconnect/reconnect the drive, it should work. You might need to uninstall the thumb driver and reinstall on connecting the drive. I have had to do this a few times with drives connecting via docking station or hubs.

Whatever you do, don't reformat if something important is on the drive. I read a thread where somebody reformatted the drive thinking that would fix the issue and I am pretty sure you know how that ended.

Did you try in the disk management to assign a letter to this disk?

I think Armen is right, with external drives Windows often needs a drive letter assignment first, otherwise the drive won't show up.
Here it is shown how it is done:

Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.
