Re-purposing decklink quad - trouble with Windows 10

PostSun Dec 30, 2018 11:41 pm

Hi All,

We upgraded our studio switch from Decklink Quad plus software to ATEM 1 M/E about three years ago. Now we are trying to re-purpose the old Decklink Quad for use in titling.

Windows recognizes the device, but it does not appear to be functioning. Windows says it has the latest drivers installed, but it is unable to use the device as an output.

As near as I can tell, the device driver is not able to determine the version of the firmware on the device.

I am looking for any kind of advice.

Thanks in advance

Good news - the actual resolution was simple all we had to do was update all of the windows drivers to the latest version and install the SDI module in propresenter.

Bad news - it was hard to figure out that was all we had to do. Here's the gotchas for future reference:

1. Blackmagic discontinued support for extended desktop on the Decklink cards in 2009, so it was not obvious that the card was working as designed.

2. We had to install the SDI module in ProPresenter to make use of the Decklink card. The Propresenter SDI module interfaces directly to the Blackmagic API.

3. Once those changes were made, resolutions and scan rates needed to be configured in both the Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup tool and Propresenter.
