Updating 15.2 TO 15.3

PostFri May 17, 2019 9:27 pm

Friends;

I have the 15.2.3 free version installed. I found the "update" version of 15.3.1, which actually appears to be the full version.

I have a couple finished projects that I don't want to lose.

I always prefer to uninstall the old and fresh install the new version.

How should I go about this to avoid issues?

Many thanks!

Back up your database/projects first. 15.3.1 is also available for the free version.

Thanks. Is there a BU feature on the software?

Forgot to add - if I backup and then do a complete uninstall, am I still good when installing 15.3.1?

Will I see the backed up projects?

Yes, it stores backups as a separate file. Check the manual for how to archive a database, and how to export a project backup.

I have had no problems going from 15.0 to 15.1 to 15.2 to 15.3. The incremental releases are "generally" just bug fixes and not that big a deal, though 14.5 was a big change over 14. It does help to always back up your Project Database, and I go a step further by exporting my current projects as DRPs just as a double-secret backup.

pretty important to validate your backed up database by restoring it,
then upgradeing the restored database, always leaveing the orignal intact

but really really, a saved database that has not been validated is not a saved database, it's a wish

given the few min it takes to restore and validate i could not see why it would not be done

Thanks everyone.

Marc; it looks like each "update" is a full version download due to the file sizes (they're all about 1.2gb). Did you install each one with the prior version still installed? Did it execute as an update would? How did you go about it?

I've had no issues upgrading from 15.whatever to 15.whatever+1. YMMV. Databases and settings remained intact.

If you're in the middle of a huge project, you might want to defer the upgrade to be on the safe side unless there is a compelling reason to do it now.

Upgrading from 15.whatever to 16 beta however, is irreversible as far as your databases are concerned.

Yes, roger that. I'm going to wait until 16 is no longer beta.

I did a complete uninstall of the older version and successfully installed 15.3.1. My projects are fully in tact. No issues. Good to know in case anyone else wants to do the same thing. Thanks again to all.

I'm new to the DR and learning it, but it's some incredible stuff and I'm really digging it. I am very grateful that BM offers it free. Many praises.

There is no need to uninstall the previous version, however, there is no harm in doing so. It’s only unnecessary extra work.
