ot: windows 10/mint dual boot for resolve

PostSat Jul 06, 2019 3:25 am

i'm fully conversant with windows, however, i would like to try a number of recent linux apps, (such as lightworks), along with resolve under mint.

i'm aware i can install mint to dual boot on my windows pc, and have grub offer me choice at boot. all well and good...

i use macrium to back up my system drive (c:) and am wondering if i restore from a previous backup whether it will overwrite both linux AND grub loader?

any thoughts would be most welcome

tia

sorry for asking this sort of question here, but i live in rural australia and the local kangaroo's don't seem to know much about linux, let alone windows;-)

Dual boot has always been harder to do Linux first windows second.

Have you thought about running a Win10 Virtual machine ? It's a lot less painful than trying to get a windows install to not trash your Linux install ?

thanks for that.

i'd leaning in favour of putting linux on a usb3 external hd and simply pluging in and changing boot order? does that make sense?

meanwhile, if i do run w$ in a virtual machine, does it impact 'speed' in any way?

again, thanks for the reply
