Selecting orphaned transitions crashes Resolve 16b6

PostSun Jul 21, 2019 8:54 pm

Found a reproducible crash with beta 6. Create a transition between two clips (I used the default cross-dissolve). Select the first clip and shorten its duration. This creates a gap between the two clips, with the existing transition "dangling" off in the gap. I cannot select the gap to delete it, as I normally would. If I try to drag-select, Resolve freezes and closes as soon as the selection rectangle touches the transition rectangle. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate.

At least it looks like a controlled abort, as Resolve still asks me if I want to save changes before gracefully exiting and handing things over to Windows Error Reporting. This is running on Windows 10 (1803). Poking around in the diagnostic logs, I see this:

Assertion failed: standaloneClip, file Timeline\UiTiSeqEditUtils.cpp, line 6670

Changing one of the clips properly removes the transition for me, as it should. Studio 16b6 for Windows.

Confirmed on my Mac R16b5. This issue occurs when using the right-click option to change the clip duration. Other methods do not cause this issue.

Yep, I guess this is really a two-parter: transitions should not hang around like that when changing the clip duration, and Resolve should not exit if you then try to select the dangling transition.

Using that method, the transition does hang around in Studio 16B6 for Windows. (It shouldn't.) But I can select the transition and remove it without issue.

I can't even select the transition to delete it. As soon as the selection rubberband touches the transition or if I click directly on it, Resolve freezes and exits. This is with the free version of 16b6.

I am using the Studio version. I wonder if that's the difference.

I don't think so. I'm on Resolve Studio too.
I would never edit by changing clip duration so it won't affect me anyway.

Tried all the above.
No crash.
To delete the gap the DEL keys do not work but if you mark the gap with I and O point, it can be deleted.

The transition also disappears if
1. You select it and delete
2. Move the clips either side
3. If you trim the 2nd clip, you get this picture but still no crashes

Bug is still in 16.1b1. How can I bring this to the attention of the developers?

You could start by supplying a Resolve log file, and a Windows System Information .NFO file and a project export .drp of a project that exhibits this behavior, with instructions on how to create the issue with the supplied drp file.

Some of that is already in my original post, but I'll work on getting the rest of the info posted.
