Need te replug my mini monitor every time

PostTue Jul 23, 2019 9:36 am

Hello,

I'm a film editor working on an iMac 27-inch 2019 i9 in Avid.
I'm using a mini monitor for video output (thunderbolt to firewire cable).
Everytime when I open Avid, the video monitor starts flickering.
The only way to solve it is to quit Avid, replug the thunderbolt cable and restart Avid.
Is there a solution to this problem?

This flickering happened to me once (I use Resolve, not Avid). This may sound strange, but is your mini monitor located near an external hard disk? In my case the flickering occurred when the mini monitor was within an inch of one of my external disks; when I moved it away the flickering stopped. I don't know if there was a loose connection that fixed itself when I moved the mini monitor or if there was some sort of interference from the disk.

No it's not near an external harddisk.
The problem always occurs when the iMac was turned off and on again.
Looks like the mini monitor doesn't connect automatically or something?

It always connects for me. Have you updated to the latest version of Desktop Video (version 11.2, released in May 2019)? It mentions that it includes a number of stability improvements.

Hello,
Same thing here.

Imac 2019 i9 DaVinci Resolve. Picture is garbled from Ultrastudio Mini Monitor TB2 thru Apple adapter TB2/TB3. Hotplug TB2 solves it.

I have 3 of those adapters and they are all ok on Imac 2017 thru same TB2/TB3 adapter (I have also couple of those TB2/TB3 apple adapters and cables, all changed, same thing, does not work on imac 2019).

Ultrastudio HD mini TB3 works fine on both systems.

Ultrastudio Mini monitor PCIe in Akitio TB2 PCIe box works also fine on both systems thru Apple TB2/TB3 adapter.

I have tried all drivers compatible with Mohave with same result on Imac 2019.

I have also tried direct TB2 connection MacBook Pro 2014 on High Sierra with oldest possible drivers and then connected to Imac 2019 with latest drivers on Mohave to force firmware upgrade. No change.

Please some one from Blackmagic can you replicate problem?
Can you update driver to auto reset driver after initialization, or something similar?

Regards
Igor

Hello,

Same issue with my 2019 iMac with i9 processor, have to unplug and plug the TB connector to eliminate the flicker, the only other way to avoid the flicker is if the setting are on standard def 525i. Don't have the issue when using my 2018 MBP.

I asked this error to official.

They said
"We have some report like this. Apple has changed hardware(from iMac pro and imac2019). Our product is normal. So it's not our fault, ask to Apple.
and we don't plan for corresponding."

It is very disappointing...

Hello,

is there any update or workaround on this, other than reconnecting?

I have the same issue on my new iMac 2020. I tried a few combinations with my Thunderbolt dock, the TB 3 to TB 2 adapter and it's always the same:
If the mini monitor was connected when booting, it flickers and needs to be reconnected.

Thx!
Jonas
