Canon xl2 lens compatible with Black Magic?

PostMon Sep 17, 2012 2:56 am

This might be a no brainer but some of the tech talk is above my head, and want to know if I can use my lens from my Xl2 with this camera.

Very interesting point, I got a manual XL2 lens and it would be a great addition!

Interesting idea... I think I've got an Canon XL wide angle lens sitting arround somewhere collecting dust. As far as I remember it has something of 3.4mm-10.2mm zoom range... which would make for a good ultra wide angle ;) (roughly 8-23mm full frame equivalent)

But I'm not sure if it covers enough sensor area.. and if there is any possibility of a Canon XL mount to EF (or MFT) adapter...

I don't think so, the BMCC sensor is three times larger than the XL2's. You would have to crop out two thirds of your picture to compensate.

I think that the dust will be more valuable than the lenses. Especially for the lucky ones living in a gold mining area.
;)

The XL cameras have a 1/3" sensor BM is <4/3, almost 4 times larger.

Using the upcoming 43 mount, you could make a contraption stacking two 2x teleconverters, losing ~ 4 stops and some resolution. Maybe, it is not a stupid idea, as this camera has no ND filters, badly needed when shooting outdoors.

Didn't think about the sensors, it makes sense now. Its probably best to just buy a new lens then, no sense in trying to rig something crazy to save a few bucks and loosing some stops and resolution, the very reason I would buy this camera to begin with. Thanks for the responses, guys.
