Bug: Timeline wipe does not resize 16b6

PostTue Jul 23, 2019 9:07 pm

When I do a timeline wipe none of the controls in "Reference Sizing" seem to have any effect on the wiped image.

Reference sizing does work as anticipated with Galley and Offline wipes.

Yes having the same issue. Reference Sizing is broken in 16B7, it has no effect on the wiped frame from a Timeline Wipe. I have to make a still to be able to use reference sizing.

Reference sizing works as intended. It only allows sizing of the Still or Reference offline clip being wiped with the timeline, as per the user manual info.

What part of the manual leads you to believe this? pg 2419 (16b7) doesn't seem to say what you are implying. Let me know if there is another spot where it talks about getting rid of this feature. I am really hoping you are mistaken as this is a very popular feature in v15 and it would be strange for BM to have taken it out of the 16 release.

Thanks Nathan. My apologies for the misleading info.

I just did some extensive checking and it's all working properly in R16 after following the instructions in the user manual very carefully. Timeline reference can be resized & positioned.

Which version are you on? Strange that it is working for you as it has been confirmed as a bug myself, other users and BM support in 16b7. I see you are running 15.3 did you mean to say that it is working in 15?

Resolve 16b7 Mac OSX

The only thing that was a bit confusing at first was that you must select the clip you wish to wipe TO and then select the clip you are grading, to bring up the menu. Doing it the other way round does not work.

Thank you for the video I now see where the confusion stems. You are adjusting "Input Sizing" the bug is related to "Reference Sizing".

Perhaps it's not a bug but the way it's designed.

I totally understand how you could find that wording confusing, some of the manual contains vague terminology that beginners might not understand. I believe there is another thread where you can submit feedback if you think part of the manual is misleading or inaccurate.

If you are interested in learning more about this topic there is a great lesson on it in the Color grading book that Blackmagic put out. It's in Lesson 2 "Comparing and Matching Shots Manually".

Trick: Until it is fixed, the only way to use this option is to convert the reference clip's frame into a still and thus compare the clip with this still.
This way the Reference Sizing option does work (zoom, pan, ...) with the reference image

Yeah hoping that doesn't have to become the new normal. Still crossing my fingers that BM will fix it soon!
