Recommendations for Mic setup with ATEM Television Studio HD

Academic technologist here, using an ATEM Television Studio HD.

I'm using this in a light board / green screen studio to make academic instructional videos. Currently I have a Vixia G40 with a hot shoe shotgun mic on it sending the audio and video to the ATEM via HDMI.

I want to improve the audio quality of the videos and don't know what's going to work well with the ATEM switcher as a XLR input. I tried a few different mics we have lying around and none of them sound good on that XLR input - they are way too quiet even though they work well with other systems. I am wondering what I am missing about the ATEM XLR input? Is anyone here using a mic solution through XLR input with this product that sounds great? I am able to buy a nice one as long as the outcome is good.

I'm not really a video production guy, and I am especially not an audio engineer. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated since I'm so out of my depth.

So I see that I need a pre-amp or something that will bring that mic to line level. From another thread here:

"the xlr on the device are designed to accept an audio mixer. The microphone alone will not have the required output level to drive this input. Use the mic by first connectng into a mixer, then connect the mixer to the atem. Or connect via some form of pre-amplifer first to reach an adequate output to drive the xlr input level required."

Any specific product recommendations welcome

Yamaha MG06 works great! The best part is that it has XLR in and outputs. Can run right into your switcher without adapters. Most other inexpensive mixers will require a TRS to XLR adapter to hook up to your ATEM. You don't need the MG06X version unless you want to add effects.

Im using Behringer XR 12 .. Its great .. 4 mic inputs (enough for me) , 8 line inputs .. Its digital mixer .. on all inoputs u have 4band parametric EQ , compressor .. It have 4 effects .. One of this is Brickwall precision limiter (U NEED THIS !) .. U Can insert this LIMITER onto output .. It have automix too .. U will turn ON it on microphones , and it will automaticaly put down microphones of not speaking peoples .. U can save 32 scenes into it .. etc etc .. U will connect it with ethernet cable into router (where ATEM is connected too), and U can control this mixer from same notebook whitch is controlling atem ..

if 4 mic is not enough , there is XR16 with 8 mics ..
