4K vs 6K Battery Life

PostWed Oct 09, 2019 1:31 pm

Anyone know if there's any power consumption difference between the 4K and 6K, if the recording formats are equal? I assume it eats up a little more due to the larger sensor but maybe not.

Unless someone has both cameras with identical media, this is going to be hard to test.

True, but unsurprisingly Blackmagic says on the cameras' Tech Specs pages ...

==============
Pocket 6K: Battery Life
Approximately 45 minutes
(recording 6K RAW at 24 fps to CFast 2.0 with screen brightness at 50%)

Pocket 4K: Battery Life
Approximately 60 minutes
(recording at 24 fps without any external USB-C device connected)
==============

... and every review I've seen comparing the 2 cameras indicates similar results. A bigger sensor and larger data files are expected to require more power, and generate more heat, requiring more power to cool. Cheers.

This would be more useful if they indicated what format the Pocket 4K was recording....

I don't think it matters much, the 6K is running about 45 minutes both in BRAW or ProRes here.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

You need an external power source. What's the discussion about? What is there to be gained from this?!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me present to you Page 30 of our Pocket cinema Camera Manual (which covers both 4K and 6K).

When recording to external media with an active lens, full screen brightness,
full tally brightness, high frame rates and not charging the battery,
Pocket Cinema Camera 6K requires 25W and Pocket Cinema Camera 4K requires 22W.
