Great job on this review. You really packed it with the details people should care about and presented it very well. I wish more reviews were like this. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks, Justin.

I had so far avoided becoming a “content creator”, preferring to write blog posts, but more and more people have been asking for video reviews, so I decided to give it a quick shot. Besides, I had a new slider to play with.

I’m sure I’ll do another when I get hold of the 35mm and 50mm...hopefully my VO will get better. If people actually watch, I might even use a decent looking model.

I will receive my Meike 12mm T2.2 on Friday. I'm curious how my sample will perform.

Excellent review, Joe! Led me to your site and I am going through your other write-ups - very technical but clear information. And I have to agree with you, while you do wonderful with the video review, there is something I do much enjoy about a simple write-up with visuals. Either way, keep up the great work!

Hey guys,

Can anyone explain the differences between the Meike 50mm F2.0 and the 50mm T2.2 Cine Lens that's yet to be released?

Joe, what does the distance scale on your Meike 12mm say when you are focusing to the far distance?
Mine is focused when it says 15m - at the ∞ it is out of focus.

Can't comment on the differences in image quality, but I'm assuming the cine lens will be the same or very similar to the Veydra 50mm, which is an excellent lens (the only Veydra I was able to get before supplies dried up).

The existing 50mm f2.0 is a stills lens; the big benefits you'd get with the new cine lens apart from the possibly better image quality are mainly ergonomic: fully manual aperture and focus control, smooth iris ring, geared rings for use with follow focus, and consistent size with most (all?) of the other lenses in the Meike cinema lens line so you can change lenses without having to reposition accessories like a follow focus; presumably like the Veydras they also all have the same size filter thread (77mm).

Cine primes make the most sense if you buy a set of them; if you just buy one it may or may not cut in well with the other lenses you own. Note that if you're using this 50mm on the BMPCC 4K it's actually a telephoto lens, around 100 mm I believe.

There must be quite alot of manufacturing variability. I just got one two weeks ago. Mine is around about at infinity focus between the infinity and M/ft letters about 2/3rds past the infinity mark. The end stop is where the 2 set screws are past the M/ft letters.
Mechanically quite different to the 25mm and 50mm Veydra I have. I was thinking of making a lens clamp for this lens set but clamp point has a very different profile to the Veydra's, so I would have to make a different clamp.

I'll have to test this, I haven't actually taken it outside yet.
