simple LANC start stop button

PostTue Sep 18, 2012 2:57 am

So now I have until December before my camera arrives. Can someone please come up with a simple start stop button for the camera? I never wanted zoom or focus or anything else, just a switch that you either press once to record and once to stop, or one you have to hold down to record. A button like proper film camera.

If someone from Blackmagic felt like posting the requirements I'll even teach myself soldering to do it myself!

Unfortunately it requires more than a switch, LANC is a serial protocol and commands are actually sent to the camera .. cheap lanc controllers can be had for as little as $50

oh absolutely. I meant that the bit under my thumb is a switch, not the unit as a whole. Ikonoskop make one for their camera.

I want something like this, but dumber, so it can start recording and stop it. Nothing else.

I'm interested in this Manfrotto LANC but it says it's for Sony and Canon. I read somewhere though that this is supposed to be compatible with the BMDCC.

Can anyone here verify that?

Here's the link to it:

Able Cine posted and accessory list for the Black Magic camera here:

http://resources.abelcine.com/2012/08/2 ... ma-camera/

on it they list both the Manfrotto and Bebob LANC controllers as working on the camera:

"External Controllers

The Cinema Camera utilizes a standard LANC remote port, so there are several remote trigger options available on the market. While any LANC controller will allow for remote start & stop functionality, there are several LANC controllers that also allow for remote focus and iris control as well. The Bebob ZOE-DVXL and the Manfrotto MVR901EPLA have both been tested by Blackmagic. "

Great link, Patrick! That also answers a couple of other questions I've been looking into.

Appreciate it.

Ok so it seems that single button thing MAY work as a start stop button. Any Melbournians out there with a camera willing to let me try?

Hm I still have my Bebob ZoeDVX from my DVX 100 days... but it only has a record start/stop button and the zoom function. So I guess it's only useful for remote trigger... of course it would be awesome if the zoom control could be "rewired" to control the focus... *dreaming* ;)
