Cannot run Da Vinci resolve 16 on 2015 macbook pro

PostThu Feb 06, 2020 1:39 am

Hi, these are my mac specifications:

MacBook Pro early 2015
Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Graphics: 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Running Mojave OS

I downloaded Da Vinci resolve 16 and it runs the application. But when I am trying to import any data, it is not importing any media in the media pool? Is this because my mac doesn't meet the minimum specifications? Am I missing any setting? Will it help if I add an eGPU? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Som

This is the link to the specifications:
https://support.apple.com/kb/SP715?loca ... cale=en_US

Graphics and Video Support

Intel Iris Graphics 6100
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors.
Thunderbolt digital video output
Native Mini DisplayPort output
DVI, VGA, dual-link DVI, and HDMI output supported using Mini DisplayPort adapters (sold separately)
HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz

I cannot see the GPU memory size.
I tried to upload .mp4 files into the media pool and it didn't work.

Thanks,

I'm afraid that model is not up to it, and an eGPu won't help you since it only has TB2.

The 2015 i5 is going to be an issue. As for TB2, it is fine for an egpu, but I wouldn't put the money down on an egpu when the base specs are that low and its old cpu architecture.

TB2 is not using an eGPU to its full capacity with Resolve.
But I second the notion that your whole system should be balanced, an eGPU alone wouldn't help much anyway.

I wrote an article about using the TB2 laptop with an eGPU a few years ago that you can find below. As the others have stated though, you won't see a significant gain using the eGPU over TB2.

I have the same setup and it does run but its not very fast you may have to generate proxies while working but I would suggest redeeming on a more powerful machine.

Its not the age of Macbook Pros but the GPU inside that counts for useability for Resolve
My older 15' late 2013 i7 MBP with 16Gb mem still runs the latest DR16 perfectly fine (for HD timelines) as has dual inbuild GPU (an extra Nvidia GT750M next to the standard iris gpu).
Yours does not and also low on system memory (only 8Gb) and a slow i5 cpu which does not help either.
Am holding on to dear life to this one as still has all the ports, great keyboard and everything released after i dont like.

And it was still Nvidia!
