Any news for the upcoming update for BMPCC?

PostFri Oct 11, 2013 7:12 pm

Im really excited for the update, anyone knows when it will be released? :D

I really hope that the new firmware for BMPCC will have
a wider choice for shutter angle, at least 11 degrees...
ISO - 100
white balance 2700 or 3200
frame rate 60fps

charging icon
audio meter.

There was a recent update but it only appears to have corrected the black dot "orb" issue.
Is there any word on pending updates and what we might expect?

Well in case anybody at blackmagic ever reads this forums I'll add a few things you can work on for an update.

-ISO definitely more choice 50, 100, 150, 300, 600, 1000, 1200... so few options right now
-A digital zoom in function for the focus as an option like on the 5D because the green line stuff is totally inaccurate and the screen is so small you can't tell if you're in focus or not.
-A thumbnail clip menu with ability to playback and delete individual clips.
-A format SD card option in the menu.
-An icon that shows how much free space is left on the SD card.

Everybody wants RAW, but let's be honest what is the point of having RAW if the software in the camera makes it unusable in a professional environment. If you get a ******* take in RAW your card might be full, you have noway of being sure, and you can't delete that clip in the camera you have to swap the card out because you can't format it in the camera... Just terrible workflow. It looks like the software on this camera hasn't been thought out at all. Too bad because I think it is a good camera, good image quality, great form factor... but ******* software.

Maybe if we make a big enough fuss about it on this form they will start working on a firmware update before they actually announce the BMPCC2.

It's my understanding that camera manufacturers have to pay licensing fees to have a "format" function as the formatting standards have license holders......this is likely why BM doesn't have the feature implemented on their cameras.
I would however like to see in camera formatting as well as everyone else!
Also not sure if you're aware but if you press the center"ok" button, you get a magnified view for critical focus.

I'd like to see in a firmware update;

1. Time Remaining counter on SD card.
2. Assignable buttons for the upper body during recording.
3. Custom White Balance as well as named white balance presets perhaps toggle from kelvin degrees.
4. Live histogram
5. Audio meter
6. Selectable compression levels for ProRes (would be great for slower SD cards as well as increased footage capacity)
(Improve LCD in next version)
(Battery grip would be great!)

I did not know that the ok button was doing that.
Thanks, I will definitely try this when my camera comes back from BM.
