BDM Cinema Camera not on the site

PostThu May 04, 2017 2:03 pm

Can't find BMD Cinema Cameras on the blackmagic website.
Are they out of production?
When new model will be available and what can be the specs?

Yes, it and the Original Production Camera are now gone, no longer in production. Only the Pocket camera remains from the original three :o

Like any funeral where friends and family gather, this thread is filling up with all my favourite people paying their respects to the camera that started the revolution.

If anyone is feeling particularly nostalgic and longing for the companionship of a very well taken care of BMCC 2.5k, mine is up for sale on eBay with plenty of quality extras ;)

How can you think of making money at this nostalgic moment?
Don't you have any feelings?

We are mourning here. :(

Rest in peace, Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

The BMCC is and will continue to be one of the classical and legendary cameras on par with the Ikinoskop A-Cam dII and the Digital Bolex D16.

It is still – five years later – an outstanding camera, superior to its competion in the $1.995 segment, with its 13 stops of dynamic range and a colour science that only the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and the Backmagic Micro Cinema Camera, emulates. When introduced and NAB 2012 it was a virtual bomb shell that blew the lid of the camera market, and forced other companies to push their envelopes. It became the standard that other companies reluctantly found themselves being compared to. These are sad days indeed, as was also the news a year ago that the D16 was discontinued. :(

Don't worry, I have a feeling the BMCC 2 will be back in black. :)
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

I'm waiting BMCC with Nikon mount and 2.5 or 4.6 sensor.
Tilt screen would be a good thing.

A nice incentive for purchasing a new camera like the Ursa Mini 4.6K or the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K might be for all of those who, in the past 3 years, purchased a new BMCC 2.5K or BMPC4K Cameras from a authorized BM distributor receive a Loyalty Member discount on purchasing anew Ursa Mini 4.6K or Ursa Mini Pro camera for around $1000.00 if you own a BMPC4K or $750.00 if you own a BMCC 2.5K. You keep your old camera as a B Camera. This ensures that you will buy into the system for several more years and provides those who were very early BM supporters an incentive to keep purchasing a new BM camera and also keep the 1st generation ones because they work. Just a suggestion.

Has this ever been a thing? After all, Nikon (and lots of other) lenses can be adapted for EF, but due to the larger focal distance the reverse is not true.

It is going to be a long wait, a Nikon mount version of a now discontinued camera.

Well, it can be a thing if you have the MFT BMCC with the MFT to Nikon G metabones speedbooster.

Yes, You can adapt a Nikon to a MFT mount and with a Metabones BMCC/NF Speed Booster you can even gain a f/stop I'd Speed and expand the AOV over the lens, so you get more coverage. This is what I would do. Also, as previously mentioned, you ca adapt a Nikon F to the EF mount quite easily, but no Speed Booster.

I want to buy a new camera in the next 3-4 months. Ursa Mini Pro is too heavy for my needs. Hope we can see new Cinema Camera till that time. It would be pretty unwise to kill such a great product.

Andy, would the BMD Micro Cinema Camera suit your needs better? Or Micro Studio? Or the Pocket Cinema Camera?

Stop the pressing guys. As long as BMCC productions keep showing up on silver screens, the cam is not dead.
The one thing I can say though - it changed people's lives. Before its advent, novices like me hadn't heard of Raw footage, let alone the challenges involved in coloring it.
The BMCC taught us how to ETTR, lens variations, dynamic ranges, grading etc, etc. It brought us close to what a professional DP will do on a real film set.
What a trip. Not quite there, but boy, that was an eye opener.
