Web presenter only in 720 over usb?

PostFri May 18, 2018 10:08 am

Hello,

Looking to get a web-presenter for those who still want two camera productions, but dont want to pay for my monster atem rig.

The web presenter seems perfect, untill i read 720p?

Does it only output 720, and not 1080p over usb? I saw this as the perfect capture-card/easy switcher, but most of my clients wants 1080, so do i!

Will this be fixed over firmware update, or is usb 2.0 simply to bad for that?

Best

No, the WebPresenter is designed as a WebCam type device, which only currently supportat a variable frame rate depending on the internet connection. This was done to keep the data rate as low as possible, and allow, the computer to see and use the device as a webcam.

If yiu want full 1080p output for professional type westreaming, look at the small ATEM HD, which can support 1080p throughput. Like the web presenter, it can be used as a stand alone switcher without needing a computer for control, then take its output to your computer’s video capture device input.

Got the atem hd, and the old one, built into my awesome rack with apple tvs, raspberrys, poe routers, wifi and neutrik panels.

But i want something small, for those cheapo gigs!

I understand 720 is optimal for most applications, but the web presenter is perfect for those 1 cam + ppt gigs / projector 2 laptop ones. Also, it would serve as an amazing capture-card, if only it did 1080.

I guess i'll have to write them and see if they have any plans on that!

Got the atem hd and some other stuff (alot) built into a rack, but that kit weights a lot.

Was looking at the web presenter for those small 1 cam, 1 screen / 2 laptops running ppt / capture-card.

But since it does 720 only (totally understood why) the capture/card aspect of it kind of doesnt work.

I agree, I would love a WebPresenter with two SDI inputs, one HDMI and the ability to choose 720 or 1080i/p output, for those small jobs, at around a $500 price point. This would fill a lot of smaller applications which two cameras and a graphics input. Meanwhile, the smaller ATEMHD and the BM Monitor Duo in a small desktop rack will have to do the job.

I too own the Web Presenter but have not employed it, given its modest 720P output.

If and when Blackmagic Design [BMD] produces a miniature streaming device with higher resolution processing yielding at least a,step up to 1080P output, it surely ought to operate across the variety of world resolutions and frame rates, just like ATEM TVSHD* and other notable BMD products -- and not just in American resolutions and frame rates.

*In the interest of clearing up any potential confusion for newbies here, I'll openly assume you guys mean to be giving repeated mention of what is actually Blackmagic Design's
ATEM TV Studio HD (which I've abbreviated using its acronym above).

What a cool setup you've got there, Johannes!

Do tell, what is that audio mixing (and perhaps also, SD card recording?) device sitting on the left side, as it nearly resembles a multitrack recording product made by Zoom?

And if yiu don't mind, convey to us what company is the maker of the sleek device with the circular wheel and companion iOS control software app?
Is it perhaps, a pan-tilt-zoom camera controller?

Cheers!
Peter

I think i'll buy the web presenter anyway, 8 guess the sdi pgm out is still 1080p right? Then it would work with a ultra-studio mini inbetween, also, it can do laptop switching, and other small tasks!

Thanks, i love it! So much potential in s small package!

It looks super sleek, and has 16 powercoutlets on th back, under the neutrik contacts, i save so much godamn time with that thing!

The audio desk is a zoom f8, with the frc 8, bought it as a run and gun mixer for on set and smaller gigs. But it packs a punch, in such a small footprint!

The ipad controlls two ptz optics cameras.

Woah. Again, awesome system.
That blasphemous language though! [Cringes for lightning]

Yes, USB 2.0 only allows up to 35MB/s by specification, so in practice around 25-30MB/s. The Webpresenter outputs 720p MJPEG encoded via USB and raw with lower resolutions. This is nearly the maximum possible with USB 2.0. For 1080i you'd need to compress the video stream much more, so you wouln't want to see the result I can image ;)

So sorry about all the spelling-errors above! **** happens inbetween gigs and no auto-correction on the phone :O

Thanks for the replies.

Only one question remains, will the sdi-pgm output 1080p60? I mean it should, but i cant find any solid info on that!

I will post more pics, and perhaps a video of the setup, if some would appreciate that!

AFAIK yes, should be the same as the selected input, but haven't done that yet and can't test it currently.

This is the dealbreaker for me really :O

Would that be possible, or should i email bm?

Seriously don’t want to spend your time testing something like that!

Unless you’re a curious bastard, and want to find out ;)

Gang, I just saw in store, the all-new Logitech 4K PRO Webcam at Best Buy, likely USB 3.1 compliant, that features a 4k sensor and purportedly featuring "HDR".

(That latter functionality is likely some faux HDR maschination via software, mind you.)

I've provided a crude image of the front and rear panels of the box. PC and Mac compatible.

4K streaming from a USB-C webcam --
tell that to Blackmagic Design product engineers who did development on their Web Presenter.

Well, usb c and 2.0 is kind of a big difference ;)

Also, would it even be fair to put ”streaming” and logitech webcam” in the same sentence? :D

Absolutely right. Hugedifference.
To be forthright, I lamented upon first seeing BMD utilized USB 2.0 for our Web Presenter here.

Oh, same here, when i read 2.0 i was shocked :O

But then again, they cant make a killer product, as it would kill the other med-segment ones.
