Resolve Desperately Needs: Please Add

PostFri Oct 12, 2018 10:31 am

This is not a general wish list like the Version 16 features that includes everything and the kitchen sink. It's for specific things that are desperately needed, that cause you extreme grief, or a large amount of duplicated effort...that drive you crazy. Please add below.

Here's my top two:

The lack of position Ease In/Out keyframing It must be extremely difficult to add because its lacking is totally insane.

No ability to copy and paste clip OFx settings on the Edit Page or to save them as presets. You have to copy parameters one by one. You can work around it on the Color page with copying nodes but many OFx filters like Resolve's glow and lens flare don't stick on the Color page. They rerender with each start without taking effect. Oddly, they do stick on the Edit Page.

Only one i guess .... put the de-interlace function in the free version, i'm using Davinci Resolve, but capture mostly from component and in progressive also, but i can imagine, that people who can only capture via composite or s-video, also want to de-interlace their captures with Daviinci resolve, otherwise they have to do this with 3rd party software.

I think Resolve could use a stability release.

So much new functionality and features have been added in 14 and 15 I think it is time for development to stabilize the product.

I am sure a lot of code needs cleanup and rework after so many additions.

in my honest opinion, that's kind of disrespectful of the amount of post/hours/discussion poured in the [16 wish list] thread: what make you think that you will get a preferred treatment in this thread vs the other one? shout louder?

Agreed, this thread should be killed imo, especially as what some people think Resolve 'desperately needs' is incredibly subjective and often not at all justified. Such as putting even more features of the Studio version into the free version. Really?? Just pay the money if it means that much to you, stop expecting people to work for free.

I guess i misread the question ? sometimes it might be a simple feature that is missed, like not being able to de-interlace captured footage, for me Davinci is stable enough on my MacBook Pro, no complaints there, Davinci Resolve is a great product, and even better than some other progs. you have to pay a periodical amount of money for, even if you pay for the Studio version you're better of with Davinci Resolve Studio ! very much value for money i think. the workflow with the tab pages i find very convenient.

You know I kind of wish there was a separate section just for Bug Reports and for Feature Requests, since things kind of get squished together here.

You mean 'Search' surely? Personally, I think there is a desperate need for stratification of the Resolve forum into (sub) sections, like most forums do. For one thing, the rate at which posts are added daily makes it very difficult to stay with what's current. A new post can be made one day and be swept down page 3-4 the next.

Definitely there should be a dedicated section for 'Bug Reports and Feature Requests', as Marc suggested.

Maybe 'active' forum Moderation also - preferably by a BMD team member(s).

I mean people should make more of an effort searching here as opposed to starting a new thread’s which are redundant and create the problem your stating.

True, but by the same token I think people might be more inclined to use 'Search' when the search can be filtered to specific (sub) sections, again, as most forums do.

-AAF for Protools that actually works(link to original audio files, with metadata and levels and crossfades). Most needed feature for professional editor that at the end of a work can't go into a nightmare to figure out how to solve all the aaf for protools problems. Fairlight will be great but right now most of sound editor still like to use protools and as an editor I need to have e relible solution to bring out the audio with aaf.
I wish everyday that this will be addressed in order to be safe editing with davinci.

Imports correctly without issue in to ProTools Ultimate 2018.10.

Both the "Avid AAF" and "ProTools" presets link correctly with ProTools Ultimate 2018.10.

The 16BFRL is 400+ posts long and has stuff that the software does not desperately lack. I started this thread because in my opinion the two items I mentioned would cause a lot of high end users to turn away. It's not disrespectful at all. It's more focused.

This is something Resolve already has but is a pain to get to and blocks your view of the source window in the color page. Right now you have to show clips, then right click a clip to add another version, which is a duplicate rather than a fresh start. I would like this option to have it's own spot on the menu bar. Easier to get to. In fact that whole right click menu you get when you click on a clip should be on the menu bar. And when you create a new version it should be clean since most of the time you're deleting everything you've added to try a different approach.

A little too presumptuous there, Walter. You don't know me or my mind, so please don't presume you know my intentions. The only intention is to focus on the essential missing pieces and not ask people to read 400+ posts. It may not succeed in doing that but perhaps you can pull what you think is essential out of the 400+ posts and start a new thread and save people the drudgery of reading a lot of stuff they don't need to read about. I'd be perfectly content with that.

David, the devs. are monitoring the Big DR16 thread, often are giving feedback.
If you don't have time to read the whole thing ( Understandingly so), making another thread just to underline what's important for you, will only duplicate the requests, and, being a small thread, will be buried in the second page within few weeks and goodbye thread.

Even if you duplicate an issue in the main one, the main thread will still be visible when a NAB resolve 1X will be released (like it happen in the past). It is a reference for all of us, the poster that read the UG more frequently read, post and comment on it.

However, if you feel that you don't want to be mingled with the rest of the posters, by any means, keep this thread alive.

Respectfully, Walter.

Again: Nothing! Please don't add a single new function to 16. Why are we talking about 16 already anyway?

Please just make the thing stable. For next 5 versions. Stop adding things and start fixing things.

Point taken about duplication, Walter, but the problem of bulk and waste remains. I'm just wondering if the Big v16 Features thread could be made less arduous for reading by splitting it into six, based on the Pages of Resolve. That way we can read about the modules that we tend to work in We're at 400+ posts now and there's plenty more to come. Splitting it like that would at least make it more efficient for many of us to read.

Or perhaps it could be moderated to prevent duplicates, posts by people who need to RTFM, and 'waste of space' and off topic comments as have appeared in this thread. Unless it is moderated or somehow made more efficient we'll never have a thread that many of us will read or post to.

Or splitting the Resolve forum itself into sub-sections along those lines:

Definitely [think] there should be a dedicated section for 'Bug Reports and Feature Requests', as Marc suggested.

AAF export from Resolve using the Avid AAF and Pro Tools presets currently does not work in the way we in post production sound need it to.

What we need as sound editors are AAFs that link to the original wav files. What Resolve does is renames and exports the original wavs as MXF files.

It doesn't help that as far as I can see, Resolve also does not correctly export EDLs for audio tracks in a timeline, which removes the other workflow that sound editors use which is creating a Pro Tools session from an EDL using production sound rushes and a program such as EdiLoad.

The forum thread you're linking to is actually people saying that AAF import doesn't work for them in the way they need it to!

- Zip-1Scanline-Export for the use in Compositing

And renaming the shots sequentially is really a hustle.

What we need as sound editors are AAFs that link to the original wav files. What Resolve does is renames and exports the original wavs as MXF files.
As a sound editor, I have successfully used Resolve derived AAFs via both the “Avid AAF” and “ProTools” presets (with the media relinking successfully), as well as Resolve derived EDLs with Conformalizer. It’s no worse than working with Media Composer derived AAFs which also reference MXF wrapped media.

Several sound editor colleagues are also working successfully with Resolve 14.2 and Resolve 15 derived AAFs and EDLs (with Conformalizer and Titan) in both ProTools Ultimate 2018.x and Nuendo 8.

Where issues often do arise, is that ProTools doesn’t handle mix rates and formats in any shape or form, whereas Resolve supports mixed audio and video file formats (both lossy and lossless) on the same Timeline, as well as audio files with mixed sample and bit rates (up to 32bit/384kHz), on that same Timeline.

The picture editor needs to be very specific and disciplined in terms of media selection when exporting AAFs to ProTools.

How are you getting Resolve to export audio EDLs? When I've done EDL exports from Resolve all we get are video only EDLs.
