Media Express 12.2 (and earlier) crashes with 0xC0000005

PostTue Nov 23, 2021 8:46 am

We're seeing Media Express crashes on multiple systems equipped with Duo, Duo 2, Quad, Quad 2 cards. Over long time we have been using Desktop Video 10.8.6 as a stable version, which generally worked well. At some point upgrades to newer versions (not only recent but also 11.x) on the same systems started causing Media Express crashes.

Just an example from one of the systems (12.2 there), memory AV logged in event log.

Faulting application name: MediaExpress.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5fe1d5a4

P10:

The application starts, shows UI, then there is hourglass for a while and the app is gone. This does not happen on every system, just one some and downgrade to older version resolves the problem.

At the same time the applications talking to DeckLink SDK do work well with the hardware, it's just MediaExpress crashes.

Is there any way to troubleshoot this? Both ways, to possibly collect diagnostics if you're interested to troubleshoot this, or somehow reset Media Express configuration maybe in the case it's somehow corrupt and blocks proper startup.

(minidump and details posted to support; the issue looks related to OpenGL support on the host vs. certain update in either Media Express or underlying OpenGL module of Qt runtime)
