GStreamer 1.17+ (GIT) with Decklink Element

We are using a Decklink Quad HDMI (W-DLK-36) capture board.
In order to capture at all we had to upgrade the Decklink SDK from 10.x to 11.5.1 in the GStreamer element, so that work was done, but we only get valid frames when setting the `mode=xx` property that explicitly matches the input format.
It appears that the capabilities negotiation w/ the decklink SDK and the gstreamer pipelines doesn't work properly.
Has anyone run into this? Does blackmagic offer any support for gstreamer?
