Capture of HDR-enabled content over SDI input

PostMon Nov 22, 2021 7:05 pm

We are looking for a card to capture HDR-enabled signal supplied over 3G-SDI cable. We are used to using DeckLink Quad 2 cards to capture SDI inputs, however in the new setup we're stumbled with compatibility with UHD HDR.

The specs for Quad 2 https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... s/W-DLK-30 has no mention for HDR, however even SDI 4K https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... s/W-DLK-11 has no HDR references.

There are a few topics on the forum, such as

- viewtopic.php?p=415505#p415505
- viewtopic.php?f=12&t=85049
- viewtopic.php?f=12&t=107060&p=591825

which suggest that there could have been some grey area around HDR transmission over SDI. Esp.

> SDI is not mentioned as there is no metadata spec in SDI to say "i'm HDR"

but this is 3+ years old.

I wonder if there is any update on the topic available? Specifically information whether specific DeckLink hardware has support for certain flavors (if there are multiple) of HDR-enabled SDI signals, or at least some information on backward compatibility such as capture with loss of HDR metadata, if this is at all applicable. Any additional information to possibly find out upfront to make sure that Blackmagic Design hardware is compatible with this specific signal?

Thanks.
