BRAW open source?

PostThu Jul 14, 2022 9:38 pm

Hi,

So I am not a coder, and not always the sharpest tool in the shed.

But...after reading up om BRAW, and it's capabilities, and understanding the format....pretty much any stream can be wrapped in it, no?

So for example, legacy cameras such as the Sony F3 outputs 12-bit 4:4:4:4 through its SDI. Would it be possible to wrap that signal as a BRAW file, recording into the Video Assist?

There are several recorders that can make ProRes 4444XQ, or DPX, but having BRAW treat cameras such as the F3 in that way would open up a lot of possibilities.

I understand this is a major thing to still make, but technically is it possibility?

Or are there any hardware limitations for making this a reality?

Technically anything is possible but since braw is not open source and there are no encoding related methods in braw sdk it can at the moment be done only with direct help from BMD.
I do stuff.
