SDK "high level" vs "low level"

maybe this is a stupid question but I'm just doing a first overview of the SDK.
In "Blackmagic Decklink SDK", it is said, that the SDK provides both low-level control of hardware and high-level interfaces. However, there's only 2.4 with an overview of how to use interfaces for simplified capturing or playing, and in 2.5 there's the reference of interfaces. But where can I find information and samples of low-level control?
