Hyperdeck "sony" remote

Does the Hyperdeck conform to the "Sony remote" convention that controller is always master of the serial bus and Hyperdeck will never spontaneously send messages?

I'm seeing some odd behaviour for which such behaviour might be the cause (or it could just be my rubbish parser of course....)
