Firmware Upgrade and mini pcie to standard pcie

I am using a mini pcie to standard pcie adapter to connect a decklink mini recorder to my computer. I can see the hardware in lspci, I can see the drivers being loaded, I can see that firmware updater says please update, I can update successfully, BUT, when I reboot the system to activate the new firmware and run the updater utility again, it still tells me that it needs update..... Does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? I even turned off apsm and I still cant upgrade the firmware properly.
