Blackmagic 4k and SD video (directshow)

PostThu Mar 10, 2016 7:45 am

Hi guys,
I have a problem with the 4k cards and directshow.
When I run a simple graph (by graphedit or by my application, is the same) with a Standard Definition video clip and I show the video by a 4K card, the video has a very poor quality.
That doesn't happend if I use, just for example, the vMix software.
I'm testing both DV25 and mpeg video clip.
The graphs are very basic, DV25 has a source filter, an Avi splitter, a MS DV Video Decoder and the two Audio and Video Decklink Renderer.
I'm using PAL standard video clip.
The problem doesn't exist if I run HD video clip.
The system I'm testing is a Windows 7 pro 64 bit, the card is an Intensity Pro 4K and the driver is 10.5.4
Any idea about how to improve the output video quality?
Thanks

Maurizio -

I noted that you are having issues withPAL only. NTSC and all HD media are being recorded correctly?
Is your PAL source as the specified signal, format and frame rate per what the board supports?
SD Format Support
625i/50 PAL and 525i/59.94 NTSC, 480p
Could it be a progressive PAL source?

There is no way to improve the quality because we capture the video coming and process it on the card for capture into an uncompressed video signal (or stored by a CODEC already installed by other software on the machine). The card is not a video scaler or deinterlacer or processor. You would need to use a different product if you need quality improvement to the video.

Matt,
thank you for your answer.
I didn't try with NTSC video, but only PAL and HD (1080i) video clip.
The HD videos work in the right way.
The PAL videoclip is a standard 720*576 25 FPS, interleaved.
If I run the graph with a non 4K card as renderer, such as Decklink Studio and more Others, I have no problem.
If I play the same video clips by other software, such as vMix, and render to the 4K card, no problem.
Maybe I'm missing something.

One more thing.
When I say that a PAL video is shown with "a poor quality", I mean that it seems to have some horizontal rows shifted.
I found a similar question here on the forum, the thread is
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=32976
but I think it refers to API usage, and not to directshow filter, but the problem seems to be the same.
Can you help me?

Solved.
I have to use the "Blackmagic WDM Render" instead of the "old" Audio and Video Render.
