[Solved] Any driver for the BM Micro Camera 4k G2?

PostFri Jan 10, 2025 8:10 pm

A Client of me bought a BM Micro Camera 4k G2 connected in HDMI to an USB-C-to-HDMI converter (Sonnetteck) suggested by a vendor in UK ... I should see the camera as USB "webcam"on a mac, but in the reality I don't see anything. I'm testing the system with him right now.

I'm wondering if any driver should be installed please

The Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 doesn't have the webcam functionality that some of the other cameras have (with beta firmware). So you'll need a capture device. The Sonnettech is a DisplayLink device and won't work for any camera (basically it's a virtual graphics card when connected to a computer, but it will tax your CPU).

Elgato Cam Link 4K would work as it presents itself as a web cam (need an adapter for USB-C). A Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Recorder 3G would work but is HD only. On macOS it's usually available as an input option for any application that lists web cam devices.

Other more expensive options from Blackmagic are the Atem Mini devices and of course the Blackmagic Web Presenter variants (but with those you would have to convert to SDI first).

Mac OS di-per-se? Because we tried to connect it to the HDMI but of course that HDMI is only an output (so far)

He ATEM Mini is interesting but so far I read it's max 1080p we need 4k. Am I wrong?

I think Elgato may be a solution
EDIT: I saw it supports 4k

That was about the UltraStudio. With an UltraStudio (and the Desktop Video drivers installed) you can use any HDMI signal in apps made for webcams on macOS. But the 4K version is expensive compared to the Elgato.

Thank you for the clarification. I will try the Elgato.
It's a pity that the ATEM Mini has only 1080p in streaming :-/
