Help with SDI ports

Hello everyone, apologies if this has been answered, I've tried searching the googles and reaching out to people for help on this but I haven't been able to garner a firm answer or set of advice on using SDI. I've heard about the ways SDI ports can be fried (particularly with RED/Arri, but I'm thinking it's especially with 12G SDI), based off of not connecting/powering cables on and off in the right order or procedure. :/ For an SDI noob, my question is would it help protect against such damage risks if I were to power the monitor and the camera from different battery sources? (As opposed to powering both through one v-mount for instance?) Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
