I was a corporate editor for over 15 years, using Adobe. I hate paying a subscription and Adobe's unethical AI stance.
I've been working on a documentary using Avid. I can't stand Media Composer for multiple reasons that I don't want to get into here.
For everything else, I use Resolve and love it. In fact, I'm building my studio with a lot of Blackmagic hardware as well.
I'm building my business and can't wait until I'm able to quit my (non-editing related) day job. I'm thinking about working with creative agencies, but most seem to be Adobe-centric, and most narrative jobs use either Avid or, to a lesser extent, Adobe. I've done a couple of jobs on Fiverr, but competing with people who charge a fraction of what I need to survive is just not appealing to me.

What would be some good strategies for getting clients who either use Resolve or are platform agnostic?

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve faced similar issues with Adobe and Avid. I’d recommend reaching out to independent filmmakers or smaller production houses—they’re often more flexible with tools and might be a good fit. Building a solid portfolio with your Resolve work and showcasing it can also help attract those clients. Networking in industry events or online groups where Resolve users hang out might lead you to the right opportunities.

I've read tons of stuff about Adobe and their machine learning path and processes, including the wild accusations (normally without backup).


And I've read the extensive explanations of what they have actually done. So I'd be interested in your take on their machine learning stuff.

Resolve has some awesome parts and some major shortcomings yet, as far as general editing goes. Hence it’s not probably going to be the main NLE in most post facilities for awhile yet. Closer, but not quite there.

That said, ain't none of these apps near perfect in my estimation.
