Best Email Provider for Production

PostWed Apr 30, 2025 6:02 pm

I'm having issues with my Mac Mail/Yahoo Email account and after 25 years I'm afraid I will have to switch provider accounts. I've always liked Mac Mail/Yahoo because the mail comes directly to my computer and stays there, but a couple of days ago my emails have stopped coming directly to my computer and I now have to sign in to Yahoo each time I want to check my email. First, anyone have any idea what may be going on? I've yet to reach out to Apple because when this problem occurred in the past, they weren't much help, and my problem went away on its own after a couple of hours. This time, it's going on two days, and I may need to consider other options. If I'm forced to give up Mac Mail/Yahoo, anyone have any recommendations for a service, preferably free, where the emails will come directly to my computer and I won't have to always log in?

Have you taken a look at Yahoos support pages?
Might this cover your trouble?

Have you considered MXroute with your own domain?

Thanks, I somehow missed that. Will give it a try!

Interesting thought. Looks like there is a fee, but not terrible. I assume the emails would come directly to my hard drive and I wouldn't have to log in, right?

Yes, that's correct. The emails go straight to whatever email app you use.

I've been using them for about four years now. The service is OS agnostic - it's an email provider, and doesn't matter what computer, tablet, mobile device, etc. that you're using.

Protonmail has a free service with an untrusive android app and only a web interface. I use this for non-critical web services.

Namecheap offers an email service along with a hosting service. I use this for priority communications. So, you (or find someone technically competent to) set up a web domain and the email service and pay through one provider. It's pretty affordable. It's that simple. You need to pay for your own email if you want a professoinal service. I can IMAP and use any normal email application on any device securely and can write offline messages whenever and it's all synced up. Using namecheap as opposed to some other (very big and now unliked) domain provider/s makes sure you have complete control and can switch domain provider, hosting or email transparently.

An aside, email is hard. Really really hard to configure properly by yourself. It didn't always used to be this way. Spam made realtime whitelisting and blacklisting a reality. Even google's email relays have been used for all sorts of nonsense.
