Hi Denny,

I have one BMD mini converter sync generator, it has no mode for 4K resolution, the highest resolution mode I could get is 1080, and I believe that there is only Tri-level (HD) sync is generated in 1080 resolution modes.

So if I use multiple BMD Micro Studio Camera 4K in 4K@30fps mode, can I still get sync-ed SDI outputs from all cameras with this sync generator? or I need another more "powerful" sync generator to do so.

You need to distribute the Sync Generator output to the Reference signal inputs on the Micro Studio cameras. If you have more cameras than outputs on generator, than you will need a distribution amp. to Cinnect between the Sync generator and cameras. Just set the signal resolution to HD, this does not effect camera output, it only locks the cameras to a single reference source to eliminate switching glitches. If you are using an ATEM 4K Production switcher, you connect the switcher aux output via a distribution amp. To the cameras and assign camera numbers to them. Them you can control the cameras directly from the ATEM and the BM CCU program.ou

You need to distribute the Sync Generator output to the SDI inputs on the Micro Studio cameras.

There is also a dedicated reference input on the expansion port of the Micro Studio Camera 4K.

To clarify, the Sync Generator signals like tri-level and Black Burst are analog not SDI signals and would be connected to the Genlock or Reference input to cameras and recorders, not the SDI video inputs to these devices.

Thanks Gary, my bad was thinking of the ATEM control input. Ana.og signals need to go to,the analog reference/sync input on the Micro breakout cable. Changed my post to reflect this.

Gary, so just to confirm: I can use the BM Sync Generator 1080p 24fps tri-level reference signals to frame lock cameras recording in 4k?

Yes 24fps = 24fps in HD or 4K. Its a clocking system, it doesnt tell the camera what format the camera needs to use.

And all 4K cameras are able to clock of a HD Sync. As there is nothing that goes higher in the Genlock / Ref world at the moment. ( aside from some new IP based ref's, but that is not the story here )

Daniel is correct as usual. Note for the cameras and switchers use the 1080i tri level settings for high P frame rates. So for a camera running at 59.94 use 1080i59.94 tri level.
