Resolve 19 studio install issues

PostSun Aug 18, 2024 5:28 pm

I have been running Resolve 18 studio and decided to try Resolve 19 Studio. The install went fine but it complained that my Nvidia driver didn't support Cuda 12.3. So I go and get the Cuda 12.3 package. It complains that I don't have Visual Studio installed. So, I install the basic Visual Studio package. Cuda 12.3 is happy and installs. Resolve is now happy and optimizes a lot of stuff.

If you were a software developer, you would probably have all of this stuff on your system and would never see any of these issues.

If you don't have it by default, it's a lot of unexpected aggravation to get Resolve 19 Studio fully configured.

You do not need to install the Cuda Toolkit for DR to work. You only need to install a current Nvidia driver.
560, for example, supports Cuda 12.6.

Christoph,

Nvidia wants you to install drivers thru the GeForce experience. Those drivers don't support Cuda 12.3. I did a search for the Cuda drivers and only came up an install for the package. I couldn't find the driver by itself. Which sent me down the rabbit hole. A note in the release notes about how to find a suitable driver would be helpful.

It's not the drivers that need to support CUDA 12.XX or above, it's your GPU. What Nvidia GPU do you have? Tell me and I will check for you. Only Nvidia GPUs with a Compute Capability of 3.5 or greater support CUDA 12.XX.
The requirement for CUDA 12 support came in with Resolve version 19.0Beta1.
As Christoph says, you do not need the CUDA Toolkit as the drivers contain all the information the GPU needs. You also do not need to use GeForce Experience to download drivers as they are available at nvidia.com.

Charles,

I have a GTX 1660 with 6gb of GDDR5. I did another Nvidia driver search and came up with 560.81 being the latest. I installed it and everything seems fine. Thanks for your comments and information. This is my first experience with these requirements.

Hello, I have an Nvidia Quadro P2200. Does it support CUDA? If so, which drivers do I need?

When I installed Resolve 19, I received the "update NVIDIA drive to one that supports CUDA or use OpenCL" box. I updated to the NVIDIA 536.40 Studio driver. Will resolve now be running using Cuda. How do I know if it is using OpenCL? I am new to using software like this.

Hi.
The 536.40 is too old for Resolve 19.

Here’s the minimum requirements.

Minimum system requirements for Windows
Windows 10 Creators Update.
16 GB of system memory. 32 GB when using Fusion.
For monitoring, Blackmagic Design Desktop Video 12.9 or later.
Integrated GPU or discrete GPU with at least 4 GB of VRAM.
GPU which supports OpenCL 1.2 or CUDA 12.
AMD/Intel official drivers from your GPU manufacturer.
NVIDIA Studio driver 550.58 or newer.

Go to http://www.nvidia.com for the latest driver. You should select the Studio version and when installing click on Custom(Advanced) and then Perform a Clean Installation.

If you don't update your Nvidia driver to at least 550.58, but preferably newer when using Resolve 19.XX, you will be stuck with OpenCL and have very slow performance. I'm currently using driver 561.09 with no problems.

As a side note to anyone new to Resolve reading this, CUDA only applies to Nvidia GPUs and not AMD ones. Also, don't depend on Windows Update to give you the latest driver. Always go to the Nvidia or AMD website.

Hi, sorry I do this from my phone, I'm not sure my question Iis asked in the proper manner.

I'm on Debian 12, I've got a RTX 4070 with a NVidia driver 560.35.03 with a Cuda version : 12.6. I've set my GPU in NVIDIA settings on "Prefer Maximum Performances".

I still have the "Your GPU memory IS full" error. So I manually selected in Résolve 19 Préférences -> everything at the lowest

Does someone have clues to my issue please ?
