Brand new Ursa Cine 12K toasts itself after an hour?

PostTue Oct 01, 2024 6:10 am

I just received my glorious new Ursa Cine 12K today. I put a PL lens on it, plugged it in via the AC adapter, and spent about 45 minutes playing with it, going through the menus, etc., and then walked away for about ten minutes.

When I returned, the screens were still on and showing a live image but none of the UI worked (touch or button). I tried turning off the camera with the on-off switch and it did not turn off.

I unplugged power, waited a bit, replugged it. Turning the power switch on gets the fans running on high, the green LED on the Ethernet port turns on, and then that's it. No booting, no nothing. The power switch again cannot turn the camera off.

I waited thirty minutes and retried, same problem.

So, uh, what's next?

Thanks,
-robin

I wouldn’t try to self diagnose a newly bought URSA. Call your dealer or Blackmagic and get it RMA’d and replace with a new one.
URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2, BM Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. iMac Pro 27” 5K Retina, 64gb, 1Tb SSD, 12Tb M.2 NVMe TB4 DAS, 36Tb HDD DAS, Vega 56 8gb GPU/ BM Vega 56 8gb eGPU, MacOS Sequoia, Resolve 19.1.1 Studio. BM Panel & Speed Editor. Dual Display setup.

One thing to try: remove the lens and test if camera boots then.
Otherwise what Ellory wrote, don’t waste your time with this, get it replaced.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Unsurprisingly it's getting RMA'd. Curious to see if anyone else is experiencing issues or having a grand old time (which would be nice to hear).

That's unfortunate for sure. I have been using mine for almost two weeks and so far so good. The only thing I notice is how hot the camera runs when I'm offloading footage through USB-C. Im assuming that's mostly the NVME running hot.
