I see an sawtooth effect at the end of a video

PostTue Jan 14, 2025 10:18 am

I did a clean install of Davinci Resolve 19 and added a video and I see this on the right side.
Any video I add has this sawtooth effect visible.
Question: What is it and how to remove?

I had Davinci installed before and had this issue pop up and decided to uninstall.
I uninstalled and also deleted the folders in Program Files and Program Files (x86) and ProgramData and Appdata.

When I opened the new install, it walked me thru the beginning setup. The sawtooth effect still shows up.

This is only an indicator that you have reached the end of the timeline - this is not included in the export.

Is there a way to make it disappear?

Yes, of course.
What you need is a small piece of paper, a pair of scissors and some adhesive tape.
Alternatively, you can also use a permanent marker in the same color as the user interface.
And while you're at it - all those other ugly icons and controls can be removed in the same way.

Please excuse my sarcasm ...
You can't get rid of this indicator and I don't understand why you would want to.
As I said before --> it will not be in the rendered video.

The alternative would be to see a black/checkerboard frame:
If the playhead in the Timeline is on the first frame of black immediately after the last video clip in
the Timeline, this indicator appears in the Timeline Viewer to let you know that you’re
viewing the last frame of the current sequence of clips, even though the playhead is actually on a
frame of black. This makes it easy to see what you’re doing while you’re first assembling clips together.

I add a color background (color generator) to the timeline on bottom track like a light blue.

Create a new track by right clicking in the tracks and Add Track. Move to the bottom to Video 1. The clips you have move up.

On the left side> Toolbox> Generators> Solid Color
Drag to the new Track.
Right click on the track and Change Clip Duration> Duration
Type in any time like 10 min. This will spread out the color.
In the upper right click on Inspector and under Generator.
Click on Color and choose any color like White or Blue etc.
This makes it easy to see the borders as you move the clips to the four borders.
You can delete the track later if you want once you have the clips in place.

You can also select a chequerboard, grey, or black viewer background in Timeline View Options, to achieve the same thing. It works on both the Cut and Edit pages.

Thanks to all for help. The Viewer background tip and explanation of the sawtooth for end of video helps.
Question: what is this indicator with the triangle that appears 1 frame before the sawtooth one?

What are the names of the 2 indicators?

This is the indicator for the last frame of a clip (bottom) and the last frame of the sequence (top). There is also one for the first frame of a clip (bottom) and the first frame of the sequence (top).
