RX 9070 XT - not used by davinci

PostSat Mar 08, 2025 9:44 pm

Hi,

i just upgraded from an Nvidia 2060 Super to a Radeon 9070 XT. Now, when I scroll through the timeline, it's incredibly slow and very choppy. It was better with the 2060 Super. The speed test only shows a performance of 29 FPS now, whereas with the old graphics card, it was around 80. Notable: during the speed test, the task manager only shows usage on the APU and not on the dedicated card. However, while scrolling through the timeline, the dedicated graphics card (in this case the 9070) is fully utilized. Anyone have any ideas?

First, did you uninstall the NVidea drivers and are using the correct AMD drivers? I will assume that the old NVidea card was removed, meaning you’re not using a multi gpu setup with different cards.

Make sure you have Resizeable BAR enabled.
Make sure your bios is up to date.
You may want to turn off the APU to eliminate that causing any bottle necks.
Make sure your PCI lane is fully enabled.

I am very interested in this card for davinci but I use linux so am waiting to see what others experiences are before pulling the trigger.

Also interested in this card, but I thought only NVIDIA CUDA was supported by Resolve, such as with the upscaling and output options.
I also game and it looks like this card out performs the more expensive RTX5070ti that I had my eye on, but as I do lots of editing I need to balance my needs

I never use resizable bar, which driver have you used. Amd cards work fine with resolve at least they do for me. Is the card apperaing in resolve prefs.

"RX 9070 XT - not used by davinci"

In DaVinci Resolve, every video frame passes through and is processed by the GPU. So i'm guessing you mean something else.

Try updating the GPU driver for that GPU.

Hi,
i use the latest driver (from March 6.) when the card was released. I was hoping for a newer one but nothings happen. It´s a total mess.
I tried to enable resizeable BAR but it did not change.

Resolve is able to detect my 9070 XT in settings and can utilise the card, but my problem is that the video encoder is pegged at 100% while playing a tiny 200MB 1080p video. I can't even scrub through a 5 second clip without freezing and skipping frames. Pressing space bar takes 5+ seconds for Resolve to even begin playing.

What kind of MP4s are those? H264 / H265 / CBR / VFR?

Same here. In Davinci my Card is used - it´s just the Benchmarktool.

There's your problem. These are not supported by the GPU afaik. I would convert them to DNxHR or Prores via shutter encoder or ffmpeg or from Resolve directly.

Hm. The Datasheet says yes to H265/HEVC Decode.
Is it supportet by the 2060 super?

4:2:0 only for both 9070XT and 2060 Super

GPUs that decode 4:2:2 are Apple Macs, Intel iGPUs and only recently the nvidia 50 series.

Hm (again).
Based on media Info its "only" a 4:2:0 10 bit

That should work.

You said above its 4:2:2...

My only other idea is to disable the iGPU. Resolve (or the AMD drivers) might try to use that first for media decoding. And plug your monitor into the 9070XT.

Also are you using Resolve Studio? Not sure if HVEC is gpu accelerated in the Free Version.
