What is the minimum system requirement?

PostSat May 10, 2025 4:18 pm

Hi,
I plan to download and use Resolve. I'm a beginner. What is the minimum system requirement? My laptop runs on Windows 11. It has these hardware:

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB ( I plan to upgrade to 16 GB)
System type 64-bit operating system
GPU: Intel(R)Iris(R) Xe Graphics
Date storage: 238 GB

Am I able to run DaVinci Resolve?

These are the current minimum requirements for Resolve version 20.

Earlier version requirements are less as they have fewer features. If you go to the download page, click on the DaVinci Resolve and Fusion box, the downloads are in the left hand column. You can scroll down the column for earlier versions.

The best advice I can give you is to watch at least 5 different videos on YouTube (search for DaVinci Resolve Settings) on how to set your Preferences and Project Settings. This will be critical in ensuring your system performs at its best. There’s initially an overwhelming amount to learn but you’ll get there one setting at a time. There’s a lot of people to learn from and they all have different approaches. Even the most powerful system will struggle if some of these settings are wrong so it’s important to find people who explain things properly and in a way that makes sense to you. Some settings will be specific to Windows and others to MacOS. Do not use an external drive until you have an understanding of how DaVinci Resolve (DR) stores its data. DR stores its media and project data in different locations. It’s also imperative that you understand Proxy files, as opposed to Original media. Proxies are reduced file sizes that allow you use lower resolution clips to edit and only use the Original media when rendering or exporting your finished work.
