Request: APFS on BMPCC 4K/6K

PostSat Nov 16, 2019 3:27 pm

Hi,
I would love to see the APFS added as an option on the BMPCC 4K as it is not only a much more modern file system than HFS+ it is designed from the ground up for flash storage and is faster. Which of course is what we all use on the cameras.
Computer: 2020 Mac Mini (8 GB RAM).
Tablet: iPad Pro 12.9 (M1).
Camera: BMPCC 4K.
Storage: Samsung T5 2GB.

Have you studied in detail the features of APFS vs HFS+ and can you tell us what you think will be beneficial in a camera?

It is faster and optimised for flash storage. Which can't be a bad thing when you are talking about up to 4K DCI or 6K 60fps BRAW 3:1.

People may also want to unplug it from camera and use in on the MAC, even editing from that drive.

Plus, it is the future unlike HFS+ that has been around since 1998 or 1985 if you count HFS (non-plus) that it is an update of.

It is faster when you are working with a computer, but there are no huge benefits for a camera. It can't make writing to a SSD or flash memory faster.
Here is an in depth read:

I don't see how those features will make any impact to a camera storage.
