Davinci Resolve: If I connect eGPU no graphics card shows up

PostWed Dec 02, 2020 8:44 pm

Hello

I use Davinci Resolve for colour grading. Currently I solely use the CPU for the rendering of the video. I would like to use a Nvidia GTX1080 which is located in a eGPU dock. I use this card for steam video games and it works fine.

Resolve doesn't seem to be capable using this card when I select CUDA. In fact if the eGPU dock is connect, none of my two cards (on board and eGPU) is shown:

I have two questions:
- Am I doing something wrong or should the cards show up?
- Can I render videos using the GPU or is it supposed to carry other kinds of workload rather than colour grading?

I tried several things and I am clueless now. I don't assume it will magically work if I though money at it and buy a key stick, will it?

With kind regards
Ben

I have an exciting update: If I also connect the USB 3 B connector the cards show up, if I select Open CL.
This is the view:

It brings me two a new question:
- Is it an error that each card appears twice, or does each card contain two cores and thus can be used twice so to speak, but just if I go and purchase the key stick?

With kind regards

What specific GPU driver is installed?

Both cards use the same driver. It's version 26.21.14.4187 of 24.12.2019.

EDIT:

The GTX1080 should be CUDA capable, right? I am confused...

I try my luck bumping^^

Can anyone confirm the GTX1080 supports CUDA in version 16 of Resolve?

I now got the most recent driver from Nvidia. The only thing it does is that the eGPU won't let Resolve even launch... and I can't use both cards in tandem anymore. Wouldn't recommend at all if anybody reads this. Stick to your drivers.
