Help! I/S Thunderbolt unplug won't work

PostWed Jun 29, 2022 12:10 am

Hello
I have an Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt. HW itself runs perfectly.
But when I unplug Thunderbolt cable it always caused kernel panic.
Is this known issue? Is there any workaround?

Environment: macOS 12.4 Monterey + Desktop Video 12.3 , using Intel MacBook Pro

maybe first stop the BMD software, then unplug, i have kinda same with software using a HDMI capture dongle.but this does not cause a kernel panic, only the capture/editor crashes.

Or maybe older Desktop Video Setup will not cause the kernel panic.
check also the compatebility list on BMD

(only workaround would be to not unplug while system is running, is this really needed ?

Thank you for your comments.
AFAIK shutting down the macOS is the only solution to unplug on my mac.

I have tried to uninstall / re-install BMD driver software. It won't help.
Even if mac is at sleep state, unplug cable instantly caused Kernel panic.
With/Without Thunderbolt hub (TS3 plus) the result are same.

I hope anyone at support team can verify if this is reproducible commonly.

Did unpluging the IS (TB2) always caused a kernel panic from day 1 you have it, or since you udated any hardware or software ? OS update or new Mac ?
I only see a compatebility list for Windows on the BMD website support page,
But i remember there were only problems with M1 Macs not intel Macs.
I don't know if the kernel panic is purely hardware based, other wise you should downgrade the Desktop Video Setup utility, the notes from the older versions of this software should have info you can use.
But i guess strarting a friendly ticket at BMD should work faster, if it's hardware based they should know this already, otherwise they can tell you what DSV version to use in your case.

Latest Driver 12.4 now fix the kernel panic issue.
Thank you!

What's new in Desktop Video 12.4

• Fix intermittent crash when older Thunderbolt devices were disconnected.
• General performance and stability improvements for all models.

I was assuming you already updated the Desktop Video Setup software/driver, from your second post, but i guess you have no problems anymore ? because of what the note says of the 12.4 update ?

sometimes it is also a combination of other updates, like the operating system.
I have certain software that only runs on the older operating system of my Mac, so a secondhand 2nd Mac, with more "power" can run the newer OS and other new software, for me the simplest solution for now.
and i still prefer my Mac(BookPro) above any windows pc setup.(for many things)

Btw. how do you use your Intensity Shuttle ? i used mine mostly for VHS capture, which i now do in an all BMD hardware setup, without the Intensity, or Mac/pc
