Where are .drp files stored? (Mac)

PostFri Dec 02, 2022 3:56 pm

Hi,

I am new to Resolve and I have finished a bunch of projects. I have set an external drive for media storage/project backups/ect. I see all my projects when I initially open Resolve in the Project Manager page. However, I cannot find the actual .drp files anywhere on my computer.

I have backed the entire external drive up to an older drive and I want to be sure that I will be able to open up any of the the several projects I have created at a later date.

I googled "where are project files stored" and found "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database"...but don't see a folder called "Resolve Disk Database".

I need to clear up space on my external SSD to work on another project.

Thanks for any help!!

a .drp file is a saved (exported) project, which you can select yourself
with the right mouse button on the project and save it where you want.

the project database (.dp) is located where you selected it when you created the database.

however, there are no .drp files there, because the projects in this database
are not saved as .drp, but as part of the database (.dp).

however, you cannot do anything with these individual .dp files outside the database.

also BMD recommends to store this project database ALWAYS
on an internal (best on the start drive) device.

so if you want a project file, you have to create it yourself (see above).

So if i control click any of the projects on the project page it will give me an option to create a .drp file? If I then move that to the backup drive everything should work?

Thanks again.

If you right click and export a drp(DaVinci Resolve Project) to an external drive you will need to import it back to resolve if you want to use it. It is a backup file for archiving.

To import drp file simply right click in the Project Manager and import project.

Note that this is just a project data and doesn’t include source media files.

Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

.drp files only exist if you explicitly save them. They are not the current project file like you'd expect a "Save As" menu option would create. Their primary purpose is for archiving projects and moving projects between Resolves that are not connected to a shared database.
