PCI Expansion Chassis for Windows PC?

PostSat Jun 03, 2023 8:23 pm

I've gotten myself into a bit of a quandary. I have a new HP Windows 11 PC with Two PCI slots. One PCI 16 and One PCI 1. The PCI 16 is taken leaving the PCI 1 available. The DeckLink Duo 2 I just purchased needs a PCI 4 slot that's not available on the mother board.

Some Questions:
• Is there a way to hook the DeckLink Duo 2 to a PCI expansion chassis on a Windows PC?
o Will the data transfer rate be less than if the DeckLink Duo 2 was in a PCI Slot?
• Looks like PCI expansion chassis are available for the MAC via Firewire
o Is the DeckLink Duo 2 compatible with a Firewire PCI expansion chassis?
o Is Firewire compatible with Windows?
o Any other suggestions, based on the hardware configuration I’ve described?

Thanks,

If your PC has a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port that's probably the easiest way. You just need a Thunderbolt 3 expansion chassis and a proper Thunderbolt 3 cable.

Firewire is legacy technology and no longer worth the hassle for most people.
