eGPU Pro Needed for New Maxed-Out MacBook Pro 16-Inch?

PostTue Oct 22, 2019 12:53 am

An old non-techie is possibly about to ask a silly question, so please be gentle...

First, some background...

My aging MacBook Pro is too underpowered to run various AI photo editing software such as those by Topaz Labs, Skylum, and Moonlighting (Painnt). They either slow to a crawl or crash.

• MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
• Processor: 2.4 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
• Memory: 16 GB 1867 MHz LPDDR3

I've been waiting to get the new MacBook Pro 16-inch and max out its specs. However, in the meantime, I got the eGPU Pro a few months ago to help while I waited. It has faithfully powered through some very heavy-duty tasks and opened up new possibilities.

My question is: Once I get the new maxed out MacBook Pro 16-inch, will I still need the eGPU Pro or will it be redundant? Will the MBP be able to handle everything itself? If so, I'll likely sell the eGPU Pro.

We don't know what GPU is going to be in the new MBPr, as it hasn't even been announced.
