AMD R9 GPU settings for DR Studio 16

PostMon May 18, 2020 10:57 am

Hi,

I have a quadcore i5 6400 PC with an AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB GPU.

My first question is on rendering.

I usually let my videos encode using native rendering for which I get the results I need. The CPU is doing all the hard work whilst the GPU is doing about 2-5%. When I choose to use the R9 380 for encoding, I get a better balance of CPU + GPU workload but the rendered result is slightly different. The playback looks different visually, as if the video camera had a quicker shutter speed. Are there any settings specifically in Davinci Resolve or the R9 380 which would help the rendered video to be correct?

My second question is on general set-up to ensure smooth playback during editing.

Once I apply FX and grades, the playback within the edit tab is naturally working harder. What changes should I make to my settings to ensure the GPU is working just as hard as the CPU?

Thanks

Hi Phil, your settings are identical to mine but I have the R9 390X w/ 8Gb VRAM x 2. I'm not having any issues, in fact I am able to work on 6K BRAW 24fps without issues. Fusion runs like a charm. I don't think it is the driver setting. Resolve uses a lot of VRAM and and that may be where the bottleneck is, having only 4Gb VRAM.
