Monitor has Thunderbolt. Is "UltraStudio Monitor 3G" needed?

PostFri Jul 31, 2020 10:57 pm

Hi,

I'm new to Resolve, and need to color correct 10Bit, 4K, ProRes 4444 XQ Rec 2020 footage.
I have a 2016 Macbook Pro and a Dell U2720Q 4K Monitor. The Monitor covers about 67% of Rec 2020.

I setup my Resolve Controls on my Macbook, and the Viewer on the Dell.

I was told that I needed an "Ultrastudio Monitor" to make sure that the colors I was seeing on the Dell monitor were accurate (and not being changed by my macbook Pro).

I calibrated the Dell using Xrite i1Display Pro Plus, and in the Mac's system preferences->Displays tab, selected the Color Profile that the Xrite created for the Dell.

I was wondering whether I should get an UltraStudio Monitor 3G 3G-SDI/HDMI Playback Device.

Would that Ultrastudio be sufficient? Once installed, can I rely on the colors I see on the monitor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Rajnesh
