Intensity Pro 4k 480p Input

PostSat Sep 12, 2020 5:57 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if there was support available or planned for the Intensity Pro 4k to accept 480p input from component or HDMI cables via a firmware update if that is possible. Currently support is available for 4k30, 1080p, 720p, and 525i/625i (NTSC/PAL analog). This is unfortunately limiting for me, as I do have some 480p inputs I would like to be able to accept, but these are rejected by the Intensity Pro 4k due to not being supported.

Alternatively, if this is not possible with the Intensity Pro 4k, is there another Blackmagic product which could accept 480p input and feed it to my desktop for capturing?

Thank you.

I am in full agreement with you. I purchased the Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4K to preserve old analog video on LaserDisc and VHS. I plugged my Wii into it with a Wii to HDMI cable (Hyperkin), but the Intensity downconverts 480p 59.94 to 480i 29.97. Why can't it just accept the progressive scan signal for what it is? I don't want to buy a separate capture card just for this. Will Blackmagic respond to this?

Devices like the Intensity Pro are designed to work with standard Broadcast video formats. All SD (480/540i) Broadcast video formats were interlaced, as required by CRT TVs. So there is no support for a non-standard format like 480p.

Will Blackmagic ever add support for SD progressive scan formats with a software update to the Intensity Pro 4K?

If software support is impossible, or if Blackmagic releases new Intensity hardware (regardless of 480p59.94 support), I would bail on the Intensity and get an Elgato HD 60 capture card. I would still keep my Intensity to preserve analog video (until I get a Domesday Duplicator) and my BMPCC4K (my best camera).
