Mini DV tape conversion woes

PostSat Dec 19, 2020 9:04 pm

I have a whopping 3 Mini DV tapes that need converted and edited. I cannot figure out how to get the video in to my iMac.

Equipment:
iMac Late 2015 Big Sur
Panasonic Mini DV Camera (Panasonic AG-DVC7)
BMD Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt
Component Connection out of the camera to the shuttle In.

I have selected Component in BMD Desktop Video Setup.
Adjusted settiings the desktop video setup and in BMD Media Express.

I cannot get the signal to show on my iMac. I have tried multiple cameras with no luck.

Embarrassed to say I am stumped. Anyone have an idea for me? It has to be something simple that I am missing.

I do not own either the shuttle or the software, but the first question that comes to my mind is: are you certain that the software is fully compatible with Big Sur? Have you tried with a machine running Mojave or Catalina? The Intensity Shuttle is a discontinued product, you might experience problems with the new macOS. Have you tried using the software that came with the shuttle (Media Express Software)?

Mini DV is a digital format - why would you let your camera convert it back to analog and then convert that signal back to digital?

The camera can send the digital data as a stream over Firewire.

Try to find someone with a Firewire input and have it done the right way.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.
