I concur with Daniel. As I am fully capable of, and experienced in designing exactly what you need to do, I also get paid for doing exactly that type of work. Even consulting and advising on infrastructure design and implementation typically has a $/rate attached for my services. I spent many years in college and regularly attend certification courses and workshops in my field to advance my expertise of newer technology when it's released. This is expensive to do.
It sounds like you and your start-up company misrepresented your ability to the college of which I suppose you have an installation contract with. That has a way of coming back to bite you, as I'm sure there is another company in your service area/state which is capable of this type of job - That doesn't have the job. If you jump in, not knowing what you're doing, you'll just wind up costing the college way more money than needed to do to job properly.
Fiber isn't copper. Just terminating the ends requires special training. You don't just pull up a diy site, ask some forum questions, slap some gear in a rack and sell it to a college. Depending on the type of fiber alone, the equipment needed to terminate and certify the quality of the ends cost between $3000 and $20,000 (FYI - A typical fiber installers/certification kit costs around $75,000 - to get started. My fusion splicer alone cost me over $18,000). Hence my disdain, but I digress.
Now, my butt-ripping editorial aside... You're starting out in a business venture and are inexperienced. I was also there once. It sounds like you want to learn... But, you don't go to a football game, walk out on the field, and ask the quarterback to tell you how to play the game so you can get paid what he gets paid. That's just bad form.
My advice to you is to hire a fiber installation company to join you in your job. Shadow them. Learn what and how they do it. There are also plenty of white papers out there on different manufacturers websites that offers plenty of insight. If you/your company intends to offer fiber installation services in conjunction with Cat5/6 data, then YOU NEED TRAINING. Educate yourself. Learn from others. Do not ask them to do your job for you.
