Decklink Quad 2 not accepting 3G-SDI on 1080p50

PostMon Aug 16, 2021 9:21 am

Hej guys, I'm new here thanks for having me.
A little issue brought me to this place to see if I can find a solution for the problem I'm having with a DeckLink Quad 2 capture card.
As long as I keep the camera in HD-SDI mode, everything works fine. But as soon as I switch the camera to 1080p50, the Decklink is not able to display the picture.
The signal coming from the camera, according to a Tektronic I had on hand is YCbCr 422 10bit 425m level A, 2.970/M Gbps (see attachment, although the screenshot is from resolution 1080p59.94). The camera uses an SDI chipset, Semtech 2972 which, according to its datasheet, is a SDI SMPTE ST424 ST425M Level A compliant chipset.
Now the big question, why does this card produce no picture output? The camera shows on various Roland and ATEM switchers without issues.

I have ways of finding workarounds but I'm trying to figure why this combination does not work..

tia, cheers

You may need newer drivers for that card. In the past, most BMD gear did not accept 3G-SDI Level A signals, but support was added over time in updated.
Ryzen 5800X3D
32GB DDR4-3600
RTX 3090
DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G
Resolve Studio 17.4.1
Windows 11 Pro 21H2

Thanx for the tip, but I don't think this is the solution. If I put an UP/Down Cross HD converter in between, the combination works, with the Cross Converter on 1080p50 level A.
Is there any known limit on the input spec of the Decklink card in this case? The fact that it did not support Level A when it was introduced, might be at the root of this behavior?

Does anyone know if the newer Decklink SDI cards, like the DeckLink 8K Pro, have different video chipsets? I've read about PTZ Optics cameras having issues with Decklink cards as well, do they work with the newer Decklinks?

So after ordering an 8k Pro card for testing ends, this issue, annoyingly, was not solved.
I'm just gonna give up for now and use a capture card that is less fussy about its input signals. Maybe if I have some time, I'll throw in the Tektronix to see what's what.
Enjoy your day everyone
