Can't See HDMI video Input from laptop

PostTue Nov 12, 2013 3:51 pm

I have connected a Dell Laptop to the HDMI input on my Decklink Studio system. The laptop sees the HDMI connection as "BMD-HDMI" and automatically changes to 1920x1080 resolution. (i plugged it into a tv to test and make sure HDMI output was working)

I get no video when i go into premiere and look at the capture window. In the blackmagic settings i set the input to be "HDMI video and analog audio"

I choose 1080p30 as the capture format, but i think that might be the issue. Is the laptop sending 1080p60 and the decklink can't see that?

Any way i can make this work?

You need to set the laptop res and refresh rate to something the Decklink supports, then set the Decklink to the same

Thanks, I understand that the Decklink has to be set for the same input settings as the Laptop is set for its output. The laptop is a normal computer, its output is standard 1920x1080 60 hertz. There is no other option. That is what the Drivers are detecting from the Decklink HDMI EDID as the proper setting. I am trying to figure out what i can set on the Decklink to make it see that signal.

As 1080i would pose a problem, you could set your laptop to a framerate of 1280*720 for the purpose of recording your screen. It's not preferred, but if there's no other option

I should clarify this a little better, I can change the laptop to be 1280x720 and the decklink detects the signal as 720p60, however i need 1920x1080 resolution so i need it to accept the 1080p60 signal and am trying to figure out if this can work or if it is something this card simply cannot do.

thanks

On my laptop I can configure my HDMI output to 1920x1080 and 30Hz and that connects just fine to my 1ME when that is setup in 1080i59.94 mode.

The 30Hz option shows up on my display adaptors advanced settings.

On your laptop check to see if you have a "59hz" option instead of 60hz. Technically 1080p60 is actually 59.94 frames per second, where as computer monitors are truly 60.

Here is where i stand so far:

This laptop has a Quadro FX 3600M video chip

I installed the latest Nvidia drivers.

I can get all kinds of combinations to work. 720p60, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p30, 1080i50

I just cant get normal 1080i60 to work.

As it stands right now I am sitting in the Nvidia driver app looking at the 1080i preference, i have 2 choices, 50hz and 60hz, if i set it to 50 and set the BM input to 1080i50 it works, if i set nvidia to 60hz then try the DM input as either 1080i59.94 or 1080i60 i get no video.

the SDI output of my Decklink needs to send standard 1080i video out to our SDI router which will then go to an input on our broadcast server and then pass through out to air on our channel. I dont think our broadcast server can accept a 50hz signal and upconvert it to 60hz to broadcast. So that is why I am trying to get a standard 60hz signal working.

Have you tried going in to the 'customise' setting under 'Change Resolution' in the nVidia drivers, then changing the timings manually?

yes i tried messing with it a little bit and nothing worked, the issue is that I dont know what is wrong and what it is looking for so i don't know what values i would need to change. I tried changing it to 59.94 and 29.97 and that didnt work as I think other values would need to change anyways. I am hoping to find a newer laptop to test with and see if it works.

thanks everyone, it turns out that machine just wont do what i need. I found another newer laptop and was about to set it to 1080i 30hz interlaced output and it works just fine with the Decklink.
