I am looking for a video capture card for my laptop via USB. I would like to capture video and audio from a Sony NX5J using HDMI for video and RCI for audio. Will the Intensity Shuttle be good for my needs? Can it capture without delay/lag?
Thank you in advance for your help

As you don't say what your laptop is or what USB 3 controller it is using it's difficult to say

What resolution/fps do you record in? Furthermore, the shuttle is capable of recording hdmi video and audio via component.
As with all laptops, it us unknown before testing if your laptop will be capable. Not all laptops are unfortunately. Mine is though :p. Ask what the trade-in options are with the retailer you buy the shuttle at

I've now got an HP Omni 27 All-in-One computer running Windows 8, goes pretty well. Want to run an Intensity Shuttle via the USB3 port, but cannot find whether the motherboard and USB combination will work or not. According to HP the motherboard is a Pegatron IPISB-NK, which HP/Compaq call the Lavaca3-SB. How do I know if this is an X-58 series motherboard? Or will I just have to try it and see?

I can save you the trouble. It's not an X58 motherboard. Those existed about 3 years ago, but PC's have moved on several times since then. That doesn't mean your USB 3 chipset won't work, but it's a crapshoot. If the USB chipset is Renesas based it will definitely work, otherwise it might, or it might not.

It's not guaranteed to work even if it uses a Renesas chipset.
Your board uses the h61 chipset and Sandybridge CPU's
Looks like it uses the Texas Instrument USB 3 controller. I'd say you'll be very lucky if it works. Not only are you using Win 8 (The shuttle isn't validated for it, although some of us have had it working under Win 8 and 8.1) but you also seem to have a chipset that I've never seen anyone get to work (myself included). The only way you'll really find out is to try it

In addition to what Adbear said, you'd be very lucky indeed. Before buying it, ask your retailer about the return policy, because you might need it before trying.
@Adbear: What site did you reference to see what USB controller it runs on? I remember looking up what I/O controller my motherboard has, and the only thing that gave it away was the instruction booklet hidden away in a picture.

I looked up the machine he's using then looked for the drivers for it

Thanks for the advice. My retailer is shipping me a Shuttle to try anyway, but I can send it back if it don't work. 10 to 1 odds against I figure.
