How to use second computer as video source

Hey all,

I recently purchased an Intensity Shuttle (Thunderbolt) for my MacBook Pro with the goal of using it to capture video from a second computer.

I have a second computer outputting HDMI video to the Intensity Shuttle, and the Intensity Shuttle connected to my MacBook; however, I don't seem to have any video output from the first computer. When I run Media Express, I only get a black screen.

How would I configure the Intensity Pro to do this? The 'server' computer has Intensity Pro drivers, and recognizes the Intensity Pro as an attached video source. However, the client doesn't think that it's attached to anything -- does the client computer also need driver on it?

If not, what settings would be appropriate for another computer running as the client?

thanks!

Capturing video from a PC is problematic for the intensity shuttle I believe. The framerate of your PC will often be 60fps (59.94), meaning that you either have to use 720p or 1080i. So now you have to decide whether to use a low-resolution for today standards, or find a way to output interlaced video with your graphics card.

If this is so, is there another laptop-compatible device that is better for video capture with another computer?

It should still be possible to get things working with your current setup. It's merely a matter of configuring the correct settings for the HDMI output on that second Mac with whatever settings you have in the intensity pro (or vice versa).

In the PC world that's simply a matter of deciding whether you want 720p or 1080i and configuring the appropriate frame rate for each format. That's done in the advanced adaptor settings for the 2nd computer and in the usual blackmagic preferences on the capture computer.

I have heard the options for configuring the display adaptor settings on the Mac are for some reason harder to set/change on a Mac vs the PC. Do you have access to the frame rate settings on a Mac.
